The Cook’s Warehouse to Demonstrate Knife Making
Three Japanese knife masters from Sakai City will demonstrate steel knife forging, assembling, sharpening and engraving at two upcoming classes at The Cook’s Warehouse. Sakai City, which has been known for its samurai swords for centuries, has now become Japan’s center for fine kitchen cutlery. The knife masters – Tadashi Enami, Akimasa Oe and Yuzo Tani – will have an interpreter to explain each step to the audience. Henri Willig Cheese Wins Two International Cheese Awards
Cheesemaker Henri Willig, a specialty producer from Holland, won both gold and silver awards during the International Cheese Awards, July 24-25, in Nantwich, England.The panel for the annual cheese contest consisted of 156 judges and more than 3,900 cheese entries from 27 countries, all divided over several categories.Henri Willig’s organic cow cheese with green pesto received a gold award and the organic goat cheese with fenugreek won a silver award. The Good Food Awards – the first national awards to recognize American craft food producers who excel in taste and sustainability – kicks off the third year of its quest to find the best food producers. Chobani, the New Berlin, N.Y.-based yogurt maker, has debuted its first Mediterranean yogurt bar in New York’s SoHo neighborhood.
The store serves artisanal creations featuring Chobani’s authentic strained Greek yogurt, shipped daily from the company’s central New York plant, as the core ingredient. In-house yogurt masters using seasonally inspired gourmet ingredients create made-to-order yogurt treats.

Navitas Naturals Expands Production of Organic “Superfoods”
Navitas Naturals, a Novato, Calif.-based organic “superfoods” company, has marked its upcoming 10th anniversary with the acquisition of additional commercial space and expansion of its production capacity.
Owners Zach Adelman and Wesley Crain purchased the buildings for the new Navitas Naturals campus, taking the company’s square footage to 23,000 square feet from 13,500. The expansion allows Navitas to double production capacity and add two new production lines.
Another added feature is a kitchen studio where the company can produce its own recipe videos, product photos and other digital marketing assets to help inform customers about the benefits of superfoods.

Chef Cat Cora Inducted into Culinary Hall of Fame
Cat Cora, known for her roles as an Iron Chef on Food Network’s “Iron Chef America” and as co-host of Bravo’s “Around the World in 80 Plates,” was inducted into the American Academy of Chefs (AAC) Hall of Fame in Orlando, Fla., as the 2012 Celebrated Chef. Cora is the first female chef to ever receive this recognition by the American Culinary Federation (ACF).

Southern Season Goes Old-School with In-Store Soda Fountain
As part of an ongoing project of renovations, Southern Season, a specialty retailer in Chapel Hill, N.C., recently opened an ice cream parlor inside the store.
The parlor was designed with a nod to the old-fashioned soda fountains of the 1950s and includes nostalgic features such as marble countertops and tall stools. The menu offers a range of classic concoctions, including ice cream floats, sundaes and egg creams.
Customers can enjoy ice cream by the scoop with gourmet toppings such as Chapel Hill Toffee, Red Light Sea Salt Caramel or Moravian Mint Chocolate Cookies.
