Williams-Sonoma Debuts First Quebec Store
Williams-Sonoma opened its first store in Quebec, Canada, on Nov. 3. Located at Carrefour Laval in Laval, Quebec, the new store marks Williams-Sonoma’s eighth location in Canada, and will be the first to showcase a new, interactive store design.

Chef Curtis Stone Visits Southern Season
Southern Season in Chapel Hill, N.C., will play host to Curtis Stone, award-winning chef, best-selling author, TV personality and entrepreneur during a special appearance, cooking demonstration and product signing at the store Nov. 15.

Amazon.com Inc. has launched Amazon Wine (www.amazon.com/wine), a marketplace offering customers more than a thousand wines crafted by wineries around the country.
The new store features easy-to-use shopping tools to help customers explore great wines and offers access to details directly from winemakers, such as tasting notes, recommended food pairings and total case production.

Wholesale specialty food brokerage Madison Lane, based in Portland, Ore., is expanding its offerings with the purchase of Seattle-based Murdock & White, a wholesale specialty food broker that represents a diverse range of regional, national and international specialty food products.

World Kitchen Sues Over Article It Claims Disparages Pyrex
The maker of Pyrex glassware claims in court that the American Ceramic Society disparaged its U.S.-made product in a “sensational” article that said it was more likely to shatter than foreign-made glassware, according to an article from Courthouse News Service.
World Kitchen sued the American Ceramic Society (ACS); Peter Wray, the editor of The American Ceramic Society Bulletin; and the co-authors of the article, Richard Bradt and Richard Martens, in Federal Court.

SIAL 2012 Sees Attendance Rise
SIAL 2012, which took place Oct. 21-25 at the Parc des Expositions de Paris-Nord Villepinte Convention Center, experienced a 10.2 percent rise in attendance compared with the last exposition in 2010, confirming SIAL’s role as a catalyst for global trade, according to show organizers.
The show had 150,192 professional visitors this year vs. 136,381 in 2010, of whom 62.8 percent were international visitors from 200 countries. The 2012 show, fully attuned to the mainstream market challenges, highlighted the dynamism of the agri-food industry on a global scale.
