IHA Issues Template for Social Responsibility for the Housewares Industry
The International Housewares Association (IHA) has created a template for social responsibility in response to industry interest and request.The just-released document, titled “Corporate Social Responsibility: A Prototype of Supplier Guidelines,” seeks to establish guidelines to ensure that working conditions in the housewares industry supply chain are safe, workers are treated with respect and dignity and that business operations are ethical and environmentally responsible.  “These guidelines provide tools that define a broad range of expectations without being overly specific in most cases,” said Phil Brandl, IHA president. “In order for these standards to be successful, they must be regarded as a total ...

Terrapin Ridge Farms Medals in National Mustard Competition
Terrapin Ridge Farms has won three coveted prizes in the 19th Annual World-Wide Mustard Competition held at the National Mustard Museum in Middleton, Wis., in April. The National Mustard Museum received more than 300 entries in this year’s competition. The eighth edition of the Olive d’Or competition, which took place as part of SIAL Canada 2013 at Toronto’s Direct Energy Centre April 30 to May 2, named nine winners in three categories. Cento Chairman Ciccotelli Dies at 86
Alfred Ciccotelli Sr., 86, founder and chairman of Cento Fine Foods, died May 6, approximately one month shy of the company’s 50th anniversary, at his home in New Jersey.  A true pioneer of the food industry, Ciccotelli was among the first to import olive oil, 100 percent durum semolina pasta, San Marzano tomatoes, panettone and other assorted Italian foods to the U.S. market.
