Americans Drink More Gourmet Coffee, Fewer Soft Drinks
Not only does coffee continue to widen its lead over soft drinks as America’s beverage of choice, but consumers appear to be shifting more heavily toward gourmet coffee options, according to the National Coffee Association’s (NCA) National Coffee Drinking Trends research study. Daily consumption of gourmet coffee beverages is up to 34 percent of American adults, up from 31 percent in 2013, while daily non-gourmet coffee drinking is at 35 percent, down from 39 percent last year.The study also revealed that espresso-based beverages accounted for the increase in gourmet coffee beverage consumption. Cibus Attracts Record Number of Buyers and Exhibitors
More than 67,000 visitors poured into Parma, Italy – up 12 percent – to attend the 17th edition of Cibus and visit the more than 2,700 exhibitors.The number of foreign buyers was up as well: a total of 12,000, which is 1,000 more than in 2012 (the show is hosted every other year). Tervis Breaks Ground on Innovation Center
Tervis continues to set the groundwork for success by building an Innovation Center at its corporate headquarters in North Venice, Fla.  Tervis broke ground on a 24,000-square-foot Innovation Center located adjacent to its existing headquarters and factory in early May. Completion of the project is scheduled for November 2014.  Within the Innovation Center, the environment will be an open concept to allow for collaborative teamwork. Survey Shows Organic Sales Hit $35 Billion in 2013
American consumers have not had their fill of organic products yet. Sales of organic products in the United States jumped to $35.1 billion in 2013, up 11.5 percent from the previous year’s $31.5 billion and the fastest growth rate in five years, according to the latest survey on the organic industry from the Organic Trade Association (OTA).  The hunger for organic products is not expected to ease any time soon.
