The Spice Lab Opens First Retail Store

The Spice Lab opened its first retail location Oct. 14 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The artisan and gourmet market showcases the company's extensive line of salts, spices, seasonings and teas from around the world. The store also sells other specialty foods and gourmet gifts including craft chocolate, coffee and olive oils, plus kitchen and tableware items.

Located in the busy Sunrise Square Plaza, the store celebrated its grand opening with tastings and sampling.

"Opening a retail shop was our original dream," said Brett Cramer, who started The Spice Lab with his wife, Jennifer. " After selling our previous business in 2009, we had planned to run a small store while the children grew up. Then the gourmet sea salt collections I designed to give family and friends that Christmas turned into a multi-million-dollar wholesale business."

The Spice Lab was named to the 2016 Inc. 5000 list of America's fastest growing private companies for the second consecutive year. It also has been recognized by the South Florida Business Journal as one of the region's Fast 50, for companies with revenues of less then $25 million; and named to the 2016 Florida Companies to Watch by GrowFL, an economic development program created by the Florida legislature to recognize and assist second-stage growth companies.

" We think our shop will be an unique experience to discover exotic spices, rare teas and a wide array of interesting gourmet products,” said Cramer. "It's our curated kitchen for cooking inspiration."

The Spice Lab is a woman-owned and family-run business with a HAACP-certified processing and packaging facility in Pompano Beach. It offers more than 240 salts, peppers and spices from around the globe. The product line includes jarred sea salts, award-winning gift collections and a selection of spices, peppercorns and seasoning blends. Other offerings include Himalayan salt shot glasses, salt plates, stones and lamps and bath salts. The company sells its extensive product line through gourmet and specialty gift shops, major retailers and online.
