Mifroma, an industrial company within the Migros Group, reinforces its expertise in the cheese industry with the takeover of Bergsenn AG. Bergsenn is famous for its mountain cheese specialties from the Swiss canton of Grisons. This acquisition, retroactive to Jan. 1, will enable Mifroma to consolidate its position in the market and support the company’s aim to develop and promote the sale of Grisons mountain cheese in Switzerland and abroad.
In the two cheese dairies run by the company in Savognin and Untervaz, Bergsenn cheese is produced daily using fresh milk from the mountains of Grisons, and is then transported to cellars, where it is ripened and cared for by specialists. Some of the most popular varieties of cheeses produced by Bergsenn include the Savognin, Grisons and Alpes Heidi mountain cheeses.
The Migros group is already the leading customer for Bergsenn products. Mifroma’s acquisition of Bergsenn will allow the company to continue its activities. All employees have been retained, and Bergsenn will also remain an independent company on the market.
“We are pleased to welcome this successful company into our group and to work together toward its development,” said Gilles Oberson, director of Mifroma. “The acquisition of Bergsenn AG will enable us to further reinforce our expertise in the domain of cheese specialties, assisting particularly in the expansion of our exports.”
Mifroma, based in Ursy, Switzerland, specializes in the ripening and packaging of cheeses. The company uses a cellar carved naturally out of sedimentary rock over thousands of years to ripen its rounds of Gruyere AOC for several months.
