Tania Toscano Sheep’s Milk Cheese and Lindsay Bandaged Cheddar from Mariposa Dairy and Atalanta Corp., took top honors at the 86th British Empire Cheese Competition.
Tania Toscano won first place in the Artisan Sheep’s Milk Cheese category and Lindsay Bandaged Cheddar placed first in the Artisan Goat Milk Cheese category in the competition held in Ontario, Canada. Both cheeses are sold under the Lenberg Farms Classic Reserve brand.
All told, Mariposa and Atalanta took home 10 awards, including honors for their Celebrity Goat Cheeses, which won five of 10 awards in the Goat Milk Cheese category alone. Mariposa was also honored as the dairy with the highest aggregate score throughout the competition.
The British Empire Cheese Competition is Canada’s longest-running cheese show hosted by the Central Ontario Cheesemaker Association. The show honors Canadian cheddars, artisan specialty cheeses and butters. The artisan categories follow a strict set of guidelines – all products must be handcrafted and sourced from 100 percent local milk.
Both Lenberg Farms Classic Reserve and Celebrity Goat Cheeses are crafted by Mariposa Dairy and are exclusively distributed by Atalanta Corp. and Finica Food Specialties Ltd. in North America.
