Make International Opens At Forty One Madison

(NEW YORK, NY—SEPTEMBER, 2016)—In time for the September 27-30th New York Tabletop Market®, MAKE International is taking the wraps off of its first- ever North American showroom. The British-based ceramics company, founded in 2005 by company director Dominic Speelman, occupies a 1,000-square-foot space on the 17th floor of Forty One Madison where its high quality, stylish tabletop and accessories collections will be exhibited.

Design collaborations are the DNA of the MAKE brand, with renowned British ceramicist Keith Brymer Jones joining Speelman in the business very soon after it was launched. Over the past decade, the two have tapped the talents of other of the country’s leading design and culinary stars to contribute concepts nurtured into marketable collections. As head of design, Jones uniquely throws every shape in all of MAKE’s ceramic ranges on his potter’s wheel at his studio in Whistable, Kent, then works with the company’s team abroad to ensure each factory-produced item matches the same high specifications of the samples yielded by his home studio.

Laurie Burns, Forty One Madison Senior Vice President and Director, said, “MAKE International, as a young yet established tabletop brand, selected New York and Forty One Madison to showcase its line and offer buyers a prestigious and convenient meeting location. This modern and fresh new showroom, added to an already strong lineup of leading resources from around the globe, gives retailers and buyers even more reason to make the upcoming show a must attend.”

Burns reminded that though Forty One will be in the midst of its lobby and Level A renovation, the show will go on with all showrooms open as normal with an abundance of new introductions. Accommodations for coat and bag check have been made on the 10th floor, where guests also will find a selection of industry and lifestyle publications, courtesy of their publishers. All is complimentary.

Programming Notes

Thursday, September 29th is Interior Designer Day at Forty One, and it kicks off with a private breakfast reception hosted by Burns to introduce designers to Kaitlin Petersen, an editor of the recently revived Metropolitan Home magazine. Following the reception and until 5 p.m., designers can explore and shop the participating Designer Access Showrooms, meet with company executives and see firsthand the newest products and latest trends. Additionally, Petersen will have identified and tagged 16 of her top picks among new products introduced at the show to inspire the designers for their current or upcoming projects.
