Good Food Awards Announces 2023 Award Winners

Portland, OR (April 21, 2023) – On the eve of Earth Day, the Good Food Foundation is proud to recognize 237 exceptional food and drink crafters in 18 categories from across the United States as this year’s Good Food Award Winners. Chosen through a rigorous blind tasting process from nearly 2,000 entries, these exceptional makers rose to the top on the basis of taste, while also demonstrating an outstanding commitment to sustainable environmental and social practices. Nearly half of this year’s Winners, 46%, are first-time awardees, and the majority are small businesses, with less than $1 million in yearly revenue. The Winners include Bibamba Artisan Chocolate, a Colorado-based maker with a mission of supporting sustainable and ethical agriculture in Cameroon; Black Narrows Brewing, whose lager made with local heirloom corn is brewed on an island off Virginia’s Eastern Shore; and Superfrau, upcycling whey into a fizzy drink that doubles the productivity of a quart of milk. The 2023 Awards Ceremony opened with a toast of sparkling cider from local Good Food Award Winner Bauman’s Cider Co., and closed with these remarks from Good Food Founder and Executive Director Sarah Weiner: “The 237 winners here tonight are following singular visions of excellence, subverting an every man for himself mentality, all the while changing norms, opening minds, building a more connected society… [they are] using food to create an impact that reaches far beyond the plate, compounding year over year into a cultural shift that was unimaginable at the onset.” Now in its 13th year, the Good Food Awards Ceremony was hosted for the first time in Portland, Oregon, in a jubilant and delicious celebration with 700 guests. The festivities were made possible through the support of the Good Food Merchants Collaborative, a group of 16 independently owned markets around the country, and lead sponsor Faire, the largest online wholesale marketplace which works with dozens of Good Food Award Winners. "We’re proud to sponsor the Good Food Awards, recognizing values-driven entrepreneurs across the food and beverage space,” said Faire. “We look forward to working with the amazing Winners in this incredibly innovative and creative community."
