Gellert Global Group Opens Warehouse in California

The Gellert Global Group has opened a 204,000-square-foot warehouse in Carson, Calif., to serve its food importing companies.

The group consists of leading North American food importers and has been involved in food importing for nearly 100 years. 

“The new space is a great opportunity to increase our presence on the West Coast and become more productive and efficient in order to better serve our customers and suppliers,” said Andy Gellert, president. 

The group supplies the needs of retailers, distributors, foodservice chains, hotels, cruise lines and food manufacturers. The combined revenues of the group exceeds $1 billion.

The new complex, Gellert Global Group West, includes ambient storage for almost 10,000 pallet positions. There are three temperature-controlled zones – a 65-degree chocolate room for Swiss Chalet that accommodates more than 2,100 pallet positions; a 34-degree room with 2,200 pallet positions; and a minus-5-degree freezer with 246 pallet positions. The building also hosts a test kitchen, training room and a soon-to-come custom bonded storage area.

Atalanta Corp., a privately held food importer, and Swiss Chalet Fine Foods, a specialty distributor of savory and sweet ingredients, will be moving to this new facility from their current residence in Vernon, Calif. The building will also accommodate product inventory from the group’s members food importer Camerican International, and JF Braun, a supplier of nuts, dried fruit and snacks.
