Duane Reade is expanding in New York with a new 22,000-square-foot concept in the Financial District, debuting its new Up Market: Chop and Fresh, a gourmet salad bar concept.
The 24-hour store, located at 100 Broadway, features an extensive salad bar with a choice of premium greens, artisanal cheeses, 30 additional toppings and an array of dressing options. Other new offerings include Up Market: Cafe, featuring a full-time barista making freshly brewed drinks, including hot and iced coffee as well as specialty brews such as mocha, espresso and cappuccino. Good & Delish, the drug chain's private label food line, will feature self-serve hot soups in eight flavors, including chicken noodle, split pea with turkey bacon, wild mushroom barley, cream of broccoli and coconut curry.
"The concept-forward store design fits the rich innovative structural history of 100 Broadway while incorporating the best ideas of Duane Reade and Walgreens partnering to create a truly unique store experience," said Michael De Fazio, Duane Reade's senior director of store concepts. "Duane Reade is reinforcing its highly recognizable, urban-localized brand with the opening of this store; simply put, it's New York living made easy."
The Up Market brand debuted last year at Duane Reade's 40 Wall Street in New York with a sushi bar and juice bar. Popular offerings first introduced there are also integrated throughout the 100 Broadway store, including Up Market: Juice, a fresh juice and smoothie bar; and chef-manned Up Market: Sushi station featuring fresh, custom-ordered sushi, sashimi and traditional sides, including seaweed salad and shumi.
Other offerings include an Up Market: Fro-Yo station that includes eight frozen yogurt varieties and four twists with a wide variety of topping options; and an Up Market: Freezee station with frozen ice/frosty drinks in four flavors.
