COSTA NOVA, the Portuguese tableware brand born on the Atlantic coast
near Aveiro, has opened its first dedicated brand boutique at Bloomingdale’s
The Shops at Riverside, in Hackensack, New Jersey. It is the first time the brand
presents its bestselling collections inside a USA department store under its
own name and identity.
The brand boutique opens a new chapter in a long relationship. Bloomingdale’s
already offers COSTA NOVA collections such as Pearl, Brisa, Pacifica and
Casafina online and in store; the new space turns that offering into a true
brand destination.
“We’re incredibly proud to launch the first COSTA NOVA shop within a
Bloomingdale’s store. This partnership represents an important step in
expanding our presence in the USA market and allows us to showcase the full
COSTA NOVA lifestyle with a retail partner recognized for curating exceptional
tabletop experiences. We look forward to connecting with Bloomingdale’s
customers who value Portuguese craftsmanship and appreciate collections
designed to elevate everyday dining and entertaining.”
** Matt Hulfish, General Manager of COSTA NOVA USA
The space carries the same design language as COSTA NOVA’s Madrid store,
opened in June 2026: natural wood, stone and tile surfaces that let the
stoneware’s glazes take center stage.
The assortment brings together the complete COSTA NOVA table and kitchen
counter concept:
*Tableware:Pearl, Rosa, Pacifica, Brisa in blue, Livia in black, Alentejo in terracotta and Grespresso.
*Kitchen:Ensemble, Scotia and Fattoria.
*Glassware:Margarida, Sens and Vine.
*Table Linen:Maria napkins.
*Flatware:Douro, Nau and Mito.
Every ceramic piece is made in Portugal from Portuguese natural resources
and is dishwasher- and microwave-safe- the practical promise USA customers
already know from the brand. Table complements are crafted in Portugal or
elsewhere in Europe, in socially responsible facilities.
Inside our brand boutique
A USA success story, built from Aveiro (Portugal)
The United States is COSTA NOVA’s largest market. The group exports 85–90%
of its production, and the USA accounts for roughly half of its revenue. The
Bloomingdale’s dedicated brand boutique is the visible result of more than
two decades of building that market, on four foundations:
*Learning the market as a maker first.Grestel, the group’s origin, was founded
in 1998 in Vagos, Portugal. From early on the USA was its main market,
producing mid-to-high-end tableware for American brands and large European
brands operating in the USA.
*Turning know-how into an own brand. The COSTA NOVA label launched
in 2006 and grew by its own name, pairing European design quality with
competitive prices.
*Scaling capacity and sustainability. The group runs three factories: Grestel
2, Grestel 3 and Ecogres, which produces collections from recycled ceramic
material.
*Operating locally.COSTA NOVA USA was established in 2017 through the
acquisition of Casafina, a long-standing partner.
COSTA NOVA USA is the brand’s North American subsidiary. It was acquired in 2017 as Casafina, a long-standing partner, to bring Portugal’s fine stoneware to the American and international markets.
Based in Brewster, New York, in a facility that includes offices, a Factory Outlet Store & Showroom and a warehouse, COSTA NOVA USA has a team of 20. Its structure lets it serve consumers and hospitality professionals across the country.
