Strasbourg & Alsace Bring Genuine French Christmas Magic To New York City

New York, NY—November 15, 2019—New Yorkers and visitors alike love Christmastime in New York City and share a feeling of goodwill to all. In that same spirit, the Marché de Noël de Strasbourg-Alsace will transform Bowling Green Park into a Christmas village with their traditional decorations, dazzling light displays and 30 authentic wooden chalets selling unique gifts and ornaments. Founded in 1570 and with over 2 million visitors each year, the Marché de Noël de Strasbourg-Alsace is Europe’s oldest and most beautiful Christmas market.

WHAT: The Marché de Noël de Strasbourg-Alsace is bringing their traditional Christmas Market from Strasbourg, the Christmas Capital. In an enchanted atmosphere, holiday shoppers will discover genuine artisanal crafts while enjoying gastronomic specialties, hot mulled glühwein, Alsatian craft beers and high-quality wines. Children will delight in creative interactive workshops and a visit with old Saint Nick. Visitors have the opportunity to make donations to Children’s Aid.  Children’s Aid ensures excellent education, health care, and social-emotional support for nearly 50,000 children, youth, and their families in New York City. 

WHO: The Marché de Noël de Strasbourg-Alsace is organized by the cities of Strasbourg, Colmar and Mulhouse and the Alsace region of France. 

WHEN: Friday, December 6th to Sunday, December 22nd, 2019, open daily 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. 

Thursday, December 5th, 2019 

5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Press conference at the National Museum of the American Indian, One Bowling Green 

6 p.m. Inauguration/Tree lighting ceremony, Lycee Francais Children’s Choir, Open to the public.
