Swiss Emmentaler Wins World Championship Cheese Title
An international panel of expert judges has named a Swiss Emmentaler as the 2014 World Championship Cheese.
Cheesemaker Gerard Sinnesberger from Kaserei Sinnesberger in Gams, Switzerland, took top honors out of 2,615 entries from 22 countries for his Original Schweizer Rohmilch Emmentaler, a large-format, big-wheel Swiss. Out of a possible 100 points, the Emmentaler scored 97.85 in the final round of judging, during which judges reevaluated the top 16 gold-winning cheeses to determine the overall champion.

IACP Gives Out Cookbook, Digital Media Awards
The International Association of Culinary Professionals (IACP) unveiled the winners of its highly anticipated awards, including the IACP Cookbook Awards, Bert Greene Awards, Digital Media Awards, and the IACP Awards, at its 36th annual conference focused on the theme “Connections.” Selected through an intense judging system, the IACP award recipients are recognized as the global leaders of the culinary community.

American consumers powered through the winter weather lifting retail sales in February, increasing 0.2 percent adjusted month-to-month and 2.3 percent unadjusted year-over-year, according to the National Retail Federation (NRF).“Today’s positive retail sales report indicates that the economy is primed for growth,” said Matthew Shay, NRF president and CEO. Nacco Industries to Close 50-Plus Kitchen Collection Stores
Nacco Industries Inc. plans to close more than 50 underperforming Kitchen Collection stores before the end of March due to lackluster sales and profit performance.Earlier this month, Nacco reported lackluster fourth-quarter and full-year results for The Kitchen Collection chain of 304 stores, a $6.9 million loss for 2013, more than twice the loss posted in 2012.
