Dean & DeLuca Being Bought by Thailand-Based Developer
Pace Development Corp., a Thailand developer of super-premium mixed-use projects, is acquiring Dean & DeLuca, one of the world's most iconic gourmet food brands, for $140 million, according to Bangkok-based The Nation.
The move is expected not only to boost Pace's capabilities as a luxury developer but also to fuel rapid growth of Dean & DeLuca's global gourmet food-and-beverage retailing business.
Along with the brand, the purchase includes the supply chain and operations of 11 outlets and two commissaries in the United States and licensing agreements in 31 international locations.

Thermos Acquires Germany’s Alfi Housewares Brand
Thermos, a leading manufacturer of portable insulated food and beverage containers based in Schaumburg, Ill., has acquired the Alfi brand, a world market leader in premium insulated containers with headquarters in Wertheim, Germany, that is a subsidiary of The WMF Group.
Currently available in 90 countries, Alfi is a well-known brand in the housewares tabletop category with products that include vacuum carafes and drinking bottles, mugs, coffee and tea pots, food jars, and other items for use indoors, outdoors, in the office or on the move.

More men are grocery shopping for themselves or their families now than in the past, but they’re not happy about it, reports The NPD Group, a leading global information company.
Men now represent 41 percent of all primary grocery shoppers, but they make up more than their fair share of people who say grocery shopping is a chore, according to NPD’s recently released report, The New Grocery Shopper.

MOM’s Organic Market opened its first urban D.C. store in the Hecht Warehouse District.
The new store features free car-charging stations; a Naked Lunch, an all-organic vegetarian eatery; craft beer and organic wine; daily deliveries of Bethesda-based Spring Mill bread; sustainable local farm-raised trout; and certified organic produce.
