This month, we are paying homage to products that are designed to perform various functions in the kitchen while taking the form of bold and beautiful shapes that epitomize great industrial design. It seems that it’s no longer enough to be good in today’s product market ... you have to look good, too. So, it’s “game on” for companies vying for the bountiful consum- er gadget dollar. For those like
me who appreciate good design, the competition is yielding some standout results, many of which we’ve highlighted in our feature, “Works of Art in the Kitchen Drawer,” page 12.
Design fans, I might also mention that the Discover Design section of the 2013 IH+HS is a must-see. It will feature many of the companies that have come to be known for presenting products with a particular focus on design. The show is just a month away, so if you haven’t registered yet, this is your friendly reminder to start making plans.
Not too far from Discover Design at IH+HS, you will find our very own Gourmet Business Pavilion. This year, we will also be honoring products that have been designed to provide more function than meets the eye in our display with a technology slant. We will demonstrate the many design features of the spe- cial products on display with accompanying video highlighting their unique approach to function. We will have more about our pavilion in our IH+HS preview issue coming later this month.
If you like to follow trends in retail, you will be interested to learn about a new retail concept that utilizes a “category killer” approach to selling olive oil, page 8.
We also have a wake-up call for you in the form of the latest and greatest for catering to America’s caffeine fix. Coffee-making has surely been elevated to an art form and we have the latest products for those who strive for the ul- timate cup. For those who don’t wish to test their skills, the computer-controlled and single-serve machines being intro- duced today are making it easier than ever to produce expert results. If you are interested in finding out more about the latest coffee-brewing products, while tasting some outstanding coffees, stop by for coffee and tea tastings at our pavilion at the upcoming show. Brewing a perfect cup is not the only element of a great coffee and tea experience. The experience can be improved with a tasty accompaniment. We highlight some great specialty food products that will help you dress up your assortment.
We are off to Ambiente in Frankfurt to get a sneak preview of the products and trends that may soon make it to our shores. Housewares fans, be sure to watch out for our special IH+HS preview issue that will be released just before the opening of the show.
